Abstract

Concern about the current permittel levels of lead in petrol has been growing steadily. It is now widely accepted that 90 percent of airborne lead comes from petrol. Lead is added to petrol as an anti-knock agent. Lead particles escape from the exhaust system and enter the body in different ways, either by direct inhalation or by indirect ingestion of the foodstuffs which have become contaminated by airborne lead.
