Abstract

This chapter addresses the issue of driver distraction within the contextof the known crash risk and driving patterns of older drivers. Consideration is also given to effects of aging on functional abilities and other factors that might predispose older drivers to the effects of distraction and their propensity to engage in distracting activities. In addition, strategies for reducing the potentially negative effects of distraction on older driver performance and safety are explored.
