Abstract

Through traffic in central city streets is only there because alternative routes are perceived as giving slower trips or costing more. The possibility exists of diverting the through traffic by making the direct trip slower, and, if possible, the ring routes faster. The paper discusses improved direction signing for motorists and amended signal timing plans to suit the reassigned traffic.
