Do tougher standards lead to better helmets?

Abstract

Present day helmets for motorcyclists are highly effective in protecting the wearers, but there are continuing pressures and efforts for improvement. It is recommended that the basic mechanism of protection, the tolerance of a helmeted head to impact and the test procedures for assessing protective performance should be reviewed.
