Efficiency in regional public transport is an important issue and is increasingly becoming so because of forthcoming deregulation. Measuring efficiency using key figures will not shed enough light on the matter because it is only two dimensional. Using frontier techniques causes more clear cut results. From a Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), it shows that regional public transport in the Netherlands could have been 13% cheaper. In addition, it is found that efficiency has decreased from the year 1992 to 1993. (A)
