Abstract

It is not true that a cycle track is to prefer under all circumstances. Cycle tracks are safe along road sections, but not on junctions. On junctions with cycle tracks more accidents occur, generally spoken, than on junctions without cycle tracks. This is often caused by the freedom of the cyclist to merge with the other traffic. This literature review presents some foreign, most Scandinavian, and Dutch opinions on the layout of cycle tracks on junctions.
