Abstract
The high incidence of alcohol involvement in serious- casualty motor vehicle accidents has led to the introduction of a number of drink driving countermeasures in victoria. If successful, it would be expected that one result of these countermeasures would be a reduction in the numbers of accident victims with greater than the legal blood alcohol concentration (BAC). This research note examines the matched accident and BAC data and concludes that, with the exception of female drivers and motorcycle fatalities, there has been a decline in the number of alcohol affected accident- casualties. This result lends support to the victorian drink- driving countermeasures. (author/publisher)
