Abstract

In the book, the authors attempt to identify major advances in understanding the drinking driver, in theoretical and conceptual formulations of the drinking-driving problem, and also in measures aimed at preventing the problem. The work focuses on developments in research within the last ten years and draws on the expertise of specialists from a number of countries. The book is intended to provide an overall understanding of advances in this area and also to make research knowledge on drinking and driving more widely available. The work is presented in three parts: Part 1: Understanding the impaired driver; Part 2: Deterrence and the drinking-driving problem; and Part 3: Other preventive approaches.
