This paper provides an account of the EVACAPA (Assessment of an Intervention among Drivers with an Alcohol Problem) project being introduced in France, which measures the diminution of the incidence of rearrested drivers in a 3-year follow-up period. Drivers committing an offence have their driving licence confiscated and take part in one of the 3 intervention groups or the control group of the EVACAPA project. The first group receive an interactive document which aims to help modify their drinking behaviour, the second group receive the document and partake in group discussions and the third group have, in addition to these exercises, a discussion with a counsellor. The system is currently undergoing a feasibility study.
