Abstract

In spite of severe enforcement, the ratio of personal injury road accidents under the influence of alcohol is high. Statistics regarding these accidents is presented. A favourable change has been a decreasing tendency of the extent of drunkenness of the persons causing the accidents. A further positive change has been the continuous decrease in fatal accidents. The accidents among cyclists and moped riders have though been increasing. Measures to reduce accidents caused by drunken driving are discussed. Introduction of an up-to-date control system, like new breathalyzers, is one. Driver education is another.
