Abstract
A study of over 1,000 drivers arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI) or driving under the influence (DUI) was conducted in Shelby County, TN, and Montgomery County, MD, over a period from 2001 to 2003. The goal was to determine some of the characteristics of the drivers being arrested in the United States (US) for DWI and compare those characteristics to drinking drivers involved in fatal crashes.
