Individuals referred for driving while intoxicated behaved differently from other patients in an alcoholism program. Their attitude as a group was one of lack of cooperation. Many of the individuals referred for driving while intoxicated may be deviant drinkers and may be amenable to interventions different from those provided in voluntary alcoholism programs.
