Abstract

This paper presents some results from work done in CIDER project V 1043. The main item to be explained is the Drive Normalized Transport access entity (DNT) a communications software in the Open Systems Interconnexion (OSI) framework. The first part shows an introduction, where the main reasons to adopt DNT are outlined, followed by some paragraphs of basic communications concepts intending to help non-communications background readers to understand DNT and its framework, what DNT is, what it does and does not do. Implementation issues are outlined, before finalizing the paper with some useful conclusions about DRIVE, DNT and the RTI (Road Transport Informatics) communications.
