Abstract

The ultimate objective of the program was to evaluate the effectiveness of one or more different types of emergency driver-aid systems, for rural controlled-access highways and to establish criteria for evaluating the applicability of the system to specific highway segments or areas. The research program designed to accomplish this objective brings together the facts about the disabled motorist problem the ways in which the problem might be solved, and the analysis of the application and costs involved in implementing the solutions.
