A new concept of a driver assistance system is proposed, which performs assistance by cooperative driving between vehicles or drivers, and introduces some examples for the assistance, where one vehicle driven by an elderly driver is escorted by the other driven by controlling their relative positions. The technologies necessary to the system are inter-vehicle communications, vehicle positioning, map database and path planning, and the human-machine system for assistance. This paper also describes some experiments of the driver assistance information support and warning system using anexperimental vehicle.
