Abstract

The paper is also published as TRRL Report No. 567, B 3862 S. Five groups of 40 drivers, with 1,13,26,39 or 52 weeks experience after passing the official driving test, drove around an assessment route under normal traffic conditions. Most of the drive indices for the newly qualified drivers differed from those from a random sample of drivers. The result is consistent with the reduction in the accident rate of drivers with increasing experience.
