Abstract

Of all the countermeasures developed to data which are designed to reduce traffic accidents, those programs directed toward improving the drivers performance have been the most controversial. Research has indicated that little objective evidence exists to support the claim that such programs are effective in reducing traffic accidents. Research concerning driver-improvement procedures has even indicated an extreme degree of variation among procedures as well as results in the effectiveness in reducing accidents or violations.
