Abstract

The need is indicated for consistent effort to teach young drivers the skills and attitudes they need to drive safely. In new jersey, a driver education/improvement committee evaluated the status of driver education and driver improvement activities, and developed recommendations for the creation of a statewide driver education and improvement program provided by both public and private sectors to address deficiencies in the current system. The 12 recommendations related to the development of the program, the curriculum, instructor certification program, test administration, driver examiner program, remedial instruction for problem drivers, community programs for driver improvement, ongoing evaluation of all programs, and high school driver education programs.
