Abstract

In the Netherlands, as in most other countries, the phenome- non of DWI is a serious problem. The penalties most commonly imposed by Dutch judges for DWI are fines and licence suspen- sion. In 1979 started as a test the Driver Improvement pro- ject in the prison at Grave, later on followed in Assen. The results of these projects are encouraging and a further introduction is expected. However, for a large scale introduction problems can arise, which are discussed.
