Abstract

This report reviews present knowledge about driver improvement and describes the state of the art in this area of post-licensing control. The objectives of the study were: 1) to summarize and update findings of an earlier review of driver improvement programs published by Ministry of Transportation and Communication (MTC) in 1979; 2) to identify and review literature on driver improvement programs and other interventions not discussed in the prior review; 3) to characterize "systems approaches" to driver improvement and to assess their effectiveness; and 4) to compare the effectiveness of general approaches and specific programs. The review and synthesis of information in the literature led to preparation of this report and to an extensive collection of other reports and papers relevant to driver improvement.
