Abstract

This study puts forward a new direction to improve the warning systems at highway-railway crossings. The research utilizes an attitudinal survey in order to meet four broad objectives which are: 1) evaluation of driver attitudes concerning hazards at the crossings, 2) evaluation of priorities for improving safety at the crossings, 3) evaluation of warning systems for the crossings, 4) development of a typical design for new advance warning system.
