Abstract

An investigation was conducted to determine if drivers of vehicles with studded tyres are making use of the increased coefficient of friction on icy roads maintain a higher speed or to drive at a higher level of safety than to drivers with unstudded tyres. Results show that they are driving what faster, but this did not lead to lower safety. Drivers with studded tyres, are on the average, driving with larger safety margins.
