Abstract

This paper describes a system of driver assessment and improvement in Austria. Psychological assessment is used in the decision-making process on re-licensing drivers after traffic offences and has now been brought under legal controls. In aptitude testing the abilities to be verified are observation, reactions, concentration, sensori-motor skills, intelligence and memory. These are determined through performance and personality tests and personal interview. Evaluation studies on these programmes are described briefly and support the psychological approach.
