Abstract

In this chapter driver support is considered from a conceptual point of view. A theoretical basis is provided first. Driver support is then looked at from the applied, ergonomic point of view in a discussion of the actual constraints that should be met by a feasible driver support system, given the present state-of-the-art in road vehicle technology. These sections cover navigation; manoeuvring; control; instruction; and collateral support. For the covering abstract see IRRD 859107.
