Abstract

Permits are required to open a driving school in Malaysia. There are driving institutes for the training of driving instructors, instructors must have held a competent driving licence for five years and be free of motoring convictions, and vehicles used for training must have certificates. Age requirements for learning to drive motorcycles and cars are outlined. After a theory course, a 40-question theory examination must be passed. Attendance at a driving school for 15 hours of driving simulation and on-road practice is compulsory. Learners must be accompanied by a qualified instructor. If the final test is passed, the driver receives a probationary licence for one year, followed by a full licence if no offences are committed.
