This article describes a survey of a representative sample of 1006 French drivers undertaken to ascertain their attitudes towards fuel conservation and driving style. The questionnaire was composed of 42 groups of questions designed to determine drivers attitudes towards energy problems and fuel saving methods of driving; states of mind while driving; driving attitudes; and driver personality and socioeconomic details. The report identifies a number of attitudes which prevent drivers from driving more econom- ically and suggests methods for improving such attitudes.
