Abstract

The authors constructed AHS (Advanced Highway Systems) simulator to compare the driver's workload and performance between pre- and post-AHS driving. AAHSS (Ajou AHS Simulator) is a fixed-based and half-sized vehicle simulator, which is operated under Windows platform, developed by the support of Korean Ministry of Construction and Transportation. The road scenes were digitized that based on the Korean road situations, and AAHSS contains the graphic-based HUD (Head-Up Display), AHS flat panel display, VMS (Variable Message Signs) by the designed DVI (Driver-Vehicle Interface) protocol and driving scenarios. AAHSS enables to change the AHS parameters of inter-vehicle gaps and speed, also possible, to compare the driver's behaviours and performances using various human factors equipment and techniques.
