Abstract

Statements regarding fatal motor vehicle accidents at crossings during 1970 and 1971 were examined. 163 Drivers were involved in 82 fatal accidents at crossings. The main cause was an error of judgement or lack of due care in traffic. In more than half of the accidents, one driver was over 60-years old, or his health was chronically defective. Decreased visual acuity was shown to exist in 15 cases. In ten of the cases, one eye was amblyopic.
