Abstract

Analytical and experimental results of studies of the disturbance situation caused by operation in close proximity to a large commercial vehicle such as a bus or a truck are given. Procedures developed for investigating the effect of such disturbances the dynamic driver/vehicle system in highway operation are outlined. Suggestions are put forward regarding the possibilities of minimizing the driver's workload on stretches of highways with characteristic disturbance situations and guidelines are given for operating by the truck or bus.
