Abstract

Although driving is an international activity, the standard of testing varies enormously. Attempts are being made in some places to bring about harmonisation of driving licences and tests but progress is very slow. What is needed, as matter of urgency, is for all nations to agree to internationally recognised standards of driver behaviour. This will lead to a standardised form of driver testing, acceptable everywhere. This would then make it easier to introduce programmes of standardised driver training.
