Abstract

A Bood underatanding of driver behaviour and reactions in emergency and panic eituations is needed to help in optimization othe Car-Driver-Hond system. A program of testmg average drivein erncrgency situations pointed up the need for a driving simnilator in which etudiea of driver behaviour in realistic iden-tical emergency or punk situutiona could be conducted withoutrisk to the subject. The Driving Simulator program began as aPeasibility study and has progressed to the completion of aPhase I study simulator. The Yhase I study simulator and pro-totype simulator, now in process of design, ure discuased.
