Abstract

The driving simulator SCORE is designed to conduct human engineering studies on car interiors. It is a new means of testing to help ergonomists to assess the visual attention of drivers in connection with instrument scanning, and to measure any associated driving disturbance. The visual system simulates a sufficiently detailed road environment. The software can present any type of road scenery designed with the help of menus. Visual simulation is controlled by a mathematical model which describes the dynamic behaviour of an automobile when the driver navigates through the visual database using traditional driving controls mounted inside the driving simulator.
