Abstract

A review is given of the usefulness of simulators for research purposes. A few specific areas of study performed on driving simulators are; learning, perception, drugs, alcohol, alertness and fatigue. Some of the most important simulators are described. The similarities and differences of the simulated and real road situations are presented. The strategy in selecting simulators for research purposes is described.
