Abstract

In the laws of most Australian states there is a provision for taking blood samples from drivers suspected of driving under the influence of drugs. On 1 December 2000, the Road Safety Act of Victoria was amended to give Victoria Police the power to require a driver to undergo an assessment of impairment which includes the taking of a blood sample. Objectives of this study were to determine the prevalence of drugs in Victorian drivers suspected of driving while impaired by a drug.
