Abstract

From the problem of drugs and driving two areas are covered in this article (1) the metabolism of alcohol and drugs, and (2) the effects of drugs on behaviour. The latter topic is discussed considering prescription drugs, drug-alcohol interactions, leisure drugs and drugs of abuse, and cannabis. It is stated that the technology of detecting and quantitating drugs in biological fluids is now sufficiently advanced to set up recommendations for legislation.
