Abstract

The object of the study was to assess the magnitude of any differences in journey times on rural roads between vehicles with studded or unstudded tyres under different road conditions. The calculations discussed here also show that the braking-to-stop distances on icy road surfaces are longer than when bare ground conditions prevail. This means that the drivers do not cut down their speeds sufficiently when the roads are slippery.
