Abstract

The Projectbureau Integrale Verkeers- en Vervoerstudies has recently commissioned a major study for the development of a model for forecasting long distance travel demand. This paper, which is an extract of the Initial Study Report, describes the background which led to the decision to develop a "marginal model", which is applied to forecast change, rather than a "total model" in which the total flow pattern is synthesized.
