Abstract

In this paper the Dutch policy on traveller information is presented. The presentation will present the unique position of the Dutch DoT: at the beginning of 1998, comprehensive on-line traffic data will become available on a national scale - fully automated and without any human interference. These data will be processed into traffic information by a Traffic Information Centre (TIC) which will be operational in 1998. Also it will present the considerations behind the decision, to make this high-quality information available to service providers on a free of charge basis. Finally, it will present some of the outstanding issues to be resolved in the next 2 years.
