Abstract

In Tthe Netherlands, "sustainable traffic safety" consists of four major subjects: (1) access roads (30 and 60 km/h areas); (2) distributor roads; (3) mopeds on the carriageway; and (4) cyclists right-of-way from the right. In 1999, fase 1 of the totall process has started. After one year of working out the ideas and regulations of "sustainable traffic safety", there are a number of questions and uncertainties on each of the four major subjects. Important questions concern costs for infrastructure, results on traffic safety and communication. Especially communication about new regulations (subject numbers 3 and 4) is very important. (A)
