Continuing previous work by the Highway Safety Research Center (HSRC) for the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Division of Mental Health (DMH) Development Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services Section (DD/SAS), this project combined information from different sources to examine the ongoing effects of the assessment and treatment system for individuals convicted of driving while intoxicated (DWI). Statistical analyses were performed on two separately derived base populations because of the intrinsic difficulty in linking data. An analysis of the DWI-convicted population of North Carolina examined how recidivism related to assessment compliance and demographic information. An analysis using information collected by the assessors examined the relationsships between services provided and recidivism rates. Lastly, an online query system was developed to deliver provider reports and recidivism reports. This dynamic system allows the user to specify a population subset for each type of report. (A)
