Abstract

Long acceleration lanes are commonly used in interchanges and junctions in Korea. As an operational alternative to improve traffic operation, the dynamic use of long acceleration lane was proposed. The feasibility was examined at existing roadway conditions with extremely long acceleration laneunder various ramp and mainline volume scenarios. Simulation results showed that for the dynamic use of acceleration lane a band of volume domain improving running speeds existed. The finding was also valid in the field where the corridor travel time was saved up to 15 percent for two sections of the test bed in Kyoungbu Freeway. For the covering abstract see E134653.
