Abstract

It has been found that the dynamic pavement/wheel loads generated by heavy trucks at speed can greatly exceed the static load values, further accelerating pavement damage. This paper analyzes the vibratory modes of the vehicle most responsible for the dynamic loading, for three common tandem suspension types: 1)torsion bar (tractor); 2)four spring (trailer); and 3)walking beam (tractor).
