Abstract

As part of the project "mobilist" - mobility in the urban area of Stuttgart - a dynamic regional parking information system will be applied at an inter-municipal level. The feasibility of this new approach will be demonstrated in six towns. The information will be available to the public via the internet and DAB. Main issue in the technical approach of the project is the integration of the on-street parking facilities in the dynamic parking guidance information. This creates some specific questions: How can we detect free on-street parking spaces? How can we get this information on-line to the parking control centre? Is there a need for online-information on free on-street parking spaces? The results of the investigation show that it is possible to solve these problems. Presently a first demonstrator of the website is already installed. The next steps include the deduction of the algorithms for the calculation of the number of free on-street parking spaces to integrate them in the dynamic information system. The whole project will be terminated at the end of the year 2001.
