Abstract

On the Inter-Urban Road E22 in the county of Blekinge in the south-eastern part of Sweden a project/test has just started with dynamic speed adoption based on actual weather, road and traffic conditions. With data from the Road Weather Information System and the Traffic Monitoring System a system for dynamic speed recommendations, in the long term also speed restriction, presented by VMS combined with a symbol, is being developed in the traffic-safety project Sakereken. The aims are to increase traffic safety and decrease environmental pollution by achieving a better speed adoption to the current situation, to achieve more steady traffic flow, reduce the average speed and decrease the spreading around the average speed. The project is also supporting the infrastructure of ITS in Sweden.
