Abstract

The paper deals with the approach and the methodologies adopted for the achievement of a Dynamic Traffic Modelling and Management tool which constitutes a very useful support in traffic management and control problems for small-medium scale motorway networks. The result is a user-friendly tool for efficient dynamic traffic management in control applications, particularly suitable to reality where transport telematic applications are already operational or are planned to operate (e.g. variable message sign (VMS), dynamic information systems, monitoring, surveillance, control) and it is directly oriented to motorway network controllers, planners and system operators (operators at the Traffic Control Centres) and indirectly to emergency services operators and drivers.
