Abstract

This report summarizes the dynamics of the automobile in the form required for analyzing the dynamic response characteristics of the driver-vehicle closed-loop system. The research represents one part of an overall program to develop a system or systems for aiding drivers in solving discrimination and judgment problems on rural highways which lead to hazardous situations and reductions in level of service. The objective of the study, of which this report is a part, as to define the requirements of overtaking and passing maneuvers on two-lane rural roads.
