Abstract

Dynamic Railtrafficmanagement : how trains can run on time. The Dutch railway industry has presented its vision of the future, titled “Benutten & Bouwen”. Part of this vision is Dynamic Railtrafficmanagement: a different approach of controlling the rail traffic process. In order to better control this process it is a necessary to manage not only the planned timetable times but also the deviations. This can be achieved by making a feedback-loop from realisation to the planning. We distinguish different functions of a timetable: for passengers it remains important to have planned departure and arrival times but conflicts between trains for the greater part can be solved real time. However, a simplification of station layout and / or disconnecting different processes might be necessary to make the task of real time process-control not too complex. On the other hand, Dynamic Railtrafficmanagement makes these measures possible. (Author/publisher)
