Abstract

The Dutch Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management intends to provide different levels of road lighting on motorways. Depending on the traffic situation optimal levels of lighting will be provided. The lighting level is changed dynamically on basis of ambient light level, traffic intensity and weather conditions. In order to determine the effects of dynamic road lighting, it will be installed on a presently unlit section of the A12 motorway. This report describes phase 2 of the 'dynamic road lighting' research project. Based on the results from phase 1 of this project, a temporary light switching schedule was developed. For abstracts of the phases 1, 3 and 4 see ITRD 890426, E203717 and E203718, respectively. See also ITRD D335635.
