The aim of this study is to further elaborate the idea of a dynamic bus lane, and to show the effects of a dynamic bus lane on a junction in a laboratory setting. The study is divided into three parts: (1) a study into the position of the dynamic bus lane within traffic engineering; (2) the design principles/starting points for a dynamic bus lane; and (3) a simulation study into the traffic engineering effects. Working with a dynamic bus lane is a way of prioritising whereby traffic that has been waiting for a traffic signal will be moved forward.
