East West Transport Corridor - A Green Corridor Concept Connecting Asia with Europe.

Abstract

This paper is focusing on the transnational initiative East West Transport Corridor (EWTC) connecting Europe with Asia via the South Baltic Sea Area (SBSA). This large and EU financed initiative aims to develop a strategyand concepts for a more effective, sustainable and intermodal corridor inline with the latest EC policy in relation to the development of Green Corridors. Actions are taken to strengthen the business development, reducing bottlenecks, increasing understanding of usage of ITS as well as modeling and simulations in transport development, and on direct infrastructure investments facilitating the transport flow. The paper is describing the transport situation, the importance of co-modality for sustainable development and the development of different ITS applications making the transportsin the corridor as “Green” as possible.
